Matt is a seasoned commercial litigator with a successful track record of representing companies and individuals across a wide range of practice areas—including commercial real estate, partnership disputes, construction, contract, trade secrets, fiduciary, employment, financial, regulatory, securities, and bankruptcy claw-back matters. He has extensive experience in state and federal courts around the country and, in keeping with the Tarpey Wix philosophy that sometimes you need to go to trial to get a just result, Matt has taken several cases to trial to achieve a successful outcome. He has conducted arbitrations in multiple forums and represented clients before several regulatory bodies. Matt has also been appointed a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois.
In his construction practice, Matt has represented general contractors, developers, joint ventures, and subcontractors in contract disputes, partnership disputes, mechanics’ lien claims, and other matters.
In his securities practice, Matt has represented advisers, private funds, broker dealers, commodity trading advisers, and market makers in a wide variety of matters, including SEC enforcement actions, investor disputes, government investigations, and regulatory matters at financial exchanges.
Prior to completing his JD, Matt worked for several years in debt, equity, and derivatives markets. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his law degree, cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
